A. No, There is no reporting of what guns you own when applying for a CHL, nor is there any gun registration in Texas.

Q. Do I need a Texas CHL to buy or own guns in Texas?

A. No, a CHL is a license to carry a concealed handgun, its’ not need to buy or possess legal firearms.

Q. Can I only carry the gun I qualify with?  What about semi and non-semiautomatic?

A. Once you receive your license you may carry any gun that you can legally obtain. There is no restriction on the number of guns you may carry either. The State rule is that if you qualify with a semiautomatic you may carry either a semiautomatic or a revolver, but if you qualify with a revolver you can only carry non-semiautomatic handguns, because semiautomatics are deemed to require more skills / training.
